One thing I want to mention is that this photo of original painting does not capture
actual colors 100%...I wanted to make good contrast between beautiful orange sky
and greenish building colors...I would say captured only about 70%...

I realize that whenever I take picture from nature or from my painting, the photo
only captures one thing either light side or dark side...,

In this painting, original painting shows a lot more exciting colorful sky with bold
brush strokes and buildings and ground is not as dark as this...

I made beautiful contrast between dusty green colors and sky but not showing here
that means my whole creation is gone !
If anyone think that's my lack of photo skill and knowlege, please let me know....
but I never catched sky and ground effectively..never...especially when light source
coming from behind..

If you see my original painting, you realize that how effectively i was able to use
complementry colors between green and orange.

that's the story of this painting, Green and Orange.

Manhattan has many different colors but one other colors I want to mentions
is colors of loneliness. Manhattan is complex city with variety of interesting
matters, but when you turn around corner, you will see true colors of
Manhattan in which you walk and walk all you can find is loneliness...

I am one of the artist looking for solutions for all the problems I am
facing, I am looking for answers in my art career and happiness
along with it, and I am looking for ultimate satisfactions in life in general.

my conclusion is that if you searching for answers in your own painting,
and find good reason to paint, you are already successful person regardless
of how much media is accepting our art work.
Because success is in our mind not from other souces.

By the way, I was going to say lonliness has it's own colors and the
colors represent poetry of our daily life.

One of the reason I paint many city painting is that city has a lot of different light source.
I like lights coming from shop windows and there is traffic lights, automoville headlight,
and then there is reflection lights from our natural sunlight, and people walking down the
street, yellow taxies...all these physical elements from this city is good enough to give me
interesting subject matter.
All these physical element is very important for me to achieve something very positive
out of our ordinary daily life.
Trying to make a great painting from our daily life style could be my own will or determination.
I truely believe it's a matter of time to reach something really interesting art work.
You can see from our old masters like Edgar Payne or Edward Hopper or other masteres
how they were able to achieve great paintings from our nature or daily life.
I would like to follow their mental or spiritual attitude only, I am aware of everybody has
slightly different interest in terms of creative mind.

Anyway, this painting is 30x24 inches in dimentions, one the large size Manhattan painting
for me. I like brushstroke and my painting usually finishes with a lot of layers of brushstroke.
I constantly approaches to my idea with endless brushstroke.

If you walking around this town, you can feel it, this own has it's own colors,
maybe because this town has history of it,s own...and the colors are very unique
and special. I also heard there are quite a few great American Impressionists
who painted around here and they call them "Bucks County Impressionists"

There is a lot of antique shops and art Galleries here, you can just walk in freely
anytime of the season, you just feel very comfortable here, actually I made
quite a few sketches here, I can say this town is very charming.

As Sun goes down, this town was even more cozy and impressive enough that
I couldn't resist to paint the moment of sunset, but I still had to use colors that
I like, instead of try to copy nature.

Approaching Empire State Building

This painting is all about interpretation of colors and colors of my own thought.
I am one of the person who never believes in the concept of plein air.
I do believe we all can learn from colors of nature and the colors of the moment.
but, the fact is colors of nature is constantly changing, you can catch the
impressions but you will never catch the colors of nature itself.
My theory is that the color is in your mind, we should use colors of our mind, not try
too much to copy nature itself, because, as I mentioned, trying to copy nature colors as you see
might be meaningless, at least for me...because I do not see true colors from nature,

The reason why I have to follow my own color is that I have desire to make every scene
of our daily life into a beautiful poetry of colors.

I am just happy to see every moment I see has slightly different color stories and I am
enjoying creating new color stories in each paintings.

This painting is the first of many Autumn paintings coming in the future.
for this, use of warm background will be a key to be sucsseful outcome.

I 've always thinking about Autumn colors throughout my recent years, because
Fall colors are rich and inspiring  so it's something worth to pursue.

The reason why I anticipting many more to come is that this kind of subject
matter is not decided by one painting, something continuously to study
and get result from several studies.

Also, in this series, I should study effectiveness of abstraction as relations
upon colors and patterns coming with my experiences of Oil Painting.

All of this thing is to pursue just one thing from my mind-- Happiness

Sunday, October 21, 2012

I have motivated by the colors of sunset in this old town, this is the town I started painting
profssionally and occasionally I travel here wandering around looking for subject matter.

usually, a lot of people walking through this town because this town has history of it's own
famous for endless gift shops and antique shops ..this town has very cozy kind attractions,
you can walk in any shops without feeling any pressure...very pleasant for tourist, and
there is small cozy Pizza shop we always stop by whenever we come here, people there
is very kind and Pizza itself is thin and crispy.

I've heard famous some American artist known as Bucks county Impressionists painted
around here, and I've seen their paintings as well, very very impressive and I admire them
a lot. Any way, whenever I come here I feel something old and classical and that's very
special feeling that I want to capture in this painting.

I understand that it's not quite easy to capture feelings like that, but I want to try it from time
to time because any great painting need a great deal of effort and I want achieve something
new possibilities.

I know this painting is originated from my Manhattan painting series and it could belong
to cityscape painting category, too.

Sunday, October 14, 2012

This painting is a second version of the " At the Corner" I made couple weeks ago,
Althgough, it appears almost similar, I tried to  accomplish more complete in a sense
of my painting creation, sometimes though it could get no better than first one,
but I couldn't resist the overwhelming desire to recreate this scene.

I am one of the artist who constantly get inspired from small things from our
daily life because I think it,s important to recognize the poetic moment is
everywhere in our life, don't be mistaken, somtimes our life is not all that
happy, I am just absorbing all kind of emotional aspect in my mind.

I also have other ideas at the same time, the warm feeling for my painting...
I am sure you all noticed I use a lot of cold colors for most of my paintings,
but, at the same time, I desire warm colors as much as you do, so I am Planning
to create Autumn colors sooner or later.
of course, I 'll be still creating Manhattan cities and more snow poetry.

Park Afternoon

When I see something inspirational moment, I have to connect to my painting.

There is nothing more important than a mother's love to their children in the
world. My mother took care of me all my life physically and emotionally.
A mother will think of you every moment of your life if you are doing ok or
try to save you from any sort of danger from this world without condition,
yes, without condition, there is only one in the world.

I had to finish this painting in a hurry before my inspiration run out, all
this impressionistic color spot was never intended to, just comes natural
sometimes due to subject matter..
I am looking for abstract effect with colorful brush stroke and knife, because
I do not like to copy nature as we see, I am looking for colors of my mind
, my mind will lead to how the color supposed to be, and this way a mother's
love becomes more lovely..

I want to dedicate this painting to all mothers in the world.

Streets of Manhattan

This painting is all about poetry of our life.

once again I decided to start with the colors I like, immediately my old memory
of small village comes alive, where we discussed about the mysterious colors
of the sky, talk about where the clouds are going and what these clouds looks like..
but, here we are in the middle of the Manhattan village looking for better life and
trying to achieve something more valuable...

But...where are we going ?  are we heading for desirable places where success and
happiness bloom or places where a lot of uncertainty and unhappy places ?
The answer is in our mind... if I can produce beautiful painting with full of color
and painterly touchy at least  next 10 years, I think I should be happy at least ?

These whole thing is mystery for me, but at least I do see most of the world with
very positive mind and romanticism..
I love New York city because love and mystrey co exsit.

Saturday, September 8, 2012

Unlike previous painting, I used warm background to generate more complementry
color effect, I believe these complementry color effects are not always neccessary,
only certain situations like this, but I think it can be achieved the other way around.

Again, I try to use different angle to study effectiveness of abstract image, the abstract
image means how much you satisfy with a painting, the power of a piece painting
comes from the effectiveness of abstract.

The reason why I do not try direct abstract is that it could be baseless and decorative,
acually I studied abstract painting for years when I was in college for Masters degree,
it's tempting and looks good, but does not give me enough reason to do that.

Another words, I am looking for new painting but not by the method of direct abstract.

Manhattan Evening

Here, I have different approach, first, I use much close up layout, so I can generate
more fresh impact, and I had to use a lot of layers, warm colors and
cool colors back and forth to give enough depth of tone.

I am trying to achieve something never seen before, I will express myself by painting
everycorner of Manhattan street, let's see how much I can satisfy myself with new
colors and brushstroke, I truely believe every corner of Manhattan street could turn
into a piece of poetry.

The lady represent positive aspect of our life and a little tricky side also, dark shadow
from automobile in front symbolize sad and dark side of our life.., little yellow lights
represent our hopes for the future, red light symbolize warning sign for our life..

All these explanations are not neccessary, if you do not feel anything from this painting,
I am just trying to achieve something new with different angle or mentality in terms of
figurative painting is concerned. Speaking of figurative painting, I would say I use material
but I never copy or anthing, another words, I am looking for abstract effect  anyway,
I believe most of great artist is looking at that measure as well.

I am looking for something unusal colors or outcome from our ordinary daily life.

A man was cleaning snows in front of a store, this maybe one of the most common
daily life story, but when I input some colors and brushstroke, it looks very charming,
I am also looking for abstract element and geomatric composition when I actually paint,
that effort makes painting only better, Here comes yelow Taxi, the yello Taxi is one of
the simbols of New York city, color itself gives painting strong complementry effect.

The lesson from this painting is again about the color, I can always create colors
based on subject matter, there is no such thing as decisive snow colors or winter color,
I can just start to paint the color I like, and think about details later.
of New York city

Manhattan has a lot of colors, but evening time has certainly mysrerious colors.
At this time of the evening, there is only on romantic color but I go around mix with several
colors to make as one evening color. Emotionally, I have so much love for this big city,
I have to admit that I worked here in Manhattan for such a long time, but actually
I did not realize this much of beauty this town has...of course, there is a lot of
negative side also but I would insist that this big city has a lot of lovely
stories behind and I want to record a lot of details this way.

This painting is 12x12 inches oil on Canvas and this could be smaller version of
what's coming in the future with much biggerscale.

Monday, August 27, 2012

Another Day in Manhattan, I witnessed something important, I always thinking
about it but  never connected with paintings.
I am always looking at our life with two different point of view...
I grew up with a lot of expectations and hopes, also I am naturally positive
and happy person and was looking for extremely romantic side of our life..
Maybe still I am, but....here comes desperation....a lot of disappointment.....
Sometimes it's overwhelming that I don't know what to do about it....

When I finished this painting however, I was quite amused that I was able to
show the two side of our human life as it is...

Now I have a courage to paint more of our life...
I want to paint the story of our life not by physically but by emotionally..

One day, a lady walking a dog in the city of New York looked quite unusual.
But this is one part of Manhattan story and very lovely afternoon heading into
evening. As a fine artist, I am always looking for something important from
our life style, I am not looking for something extroadinary but rather ordinary
and romantic. All I have to do is reproduce the moment with colors and
brushstroke that emphasis the moment.

Leaving Olive Cafe

I always think any given moment has only one color, that decisive color tells the
moment of truth, also light and dark is my prefered choice for my paintings
philasophy, that's technical issues...this remind me of my art professor(long time
ago) saying "painting is either light or dark, there is nothing like light and dark.." ???

My painting is based on optimism and hope, but I cannot help but showing
dark and sad part of our life story, or leave it as mystery.
I paint a lot of layers and layers, and add textures eventually to make my idea alive..
I have a certain ideas but techniques vary on subject matter.

Ladies represent the mysterious part of our life.

Howard Street Afternoon

As a person living nearby Manhattan, I appreciate colors of Manhattan, not just colors,
I appreciate whatever happening here, there is yellow taxi going downtown, tour bus
heading museums, there is people biking( always think looks a little dangerous),
a beautiful lady waiting for green light, people walking and talking....,
there is a lot of element it could be poetry of our life, and for me, light and shadow
is very important to make my painting alive, here comes an order for me to paint,
first, I have initial feelings it's very positive and happy inspiration, and next is suject matter
it follows my initial thought, then I go for one color theory that suits my idea, and finally,
I become adventurer in the jungle,
my final thought..I don't always satisfy with my paintings, but I am happy to see I am
heading to right directions that I want to go.

Other People's Painting

One day,  I was walking down streets of Soho with my family, there was a beautiful
brown tone painting hanging on the wall of art gallery, my daughter saying " Wow,
I really like that" and my wife also said " it's a beautiful"

Suddenly, my mind was caugh up with complicated issues, did I ever tired something
like that ? How other people's painting look so good under spot light ?
Maybe I didn't have a luxury to have such a nice painting model....

All these complicated mind is just an excuse from a lazy artist, an artist should be able to
find his or her painting subject easily from their surroundings, otherwise they have to
try hard(really hard) to find right one, no great art work comes easy..
A great painting comes from great deal of passion and determination.
Heading to downtown Soho, a young lady was crossing 6 Ave., I think she is heading to
New York University where she is exploring study with new printing technology
related to art project she is going to present soon.
The sky is clearing after sudden snow showers early morning, .and the streets of 6 Ave.
is somewhat getting more pleasant, but here is the catch.. look at the shadow on left
side.., it's almost like frozen from the snow, it actually represent dark side of the
Manhattan, contrasting people coming out of their apartment for shopping.

Behind that trees with snow is New York university where our smart boys and girls
study for our future, hopefully, we have a lot better future ahead of us........

Color of the night is ambiguous and mystery, and I don't think it can be captured
by physical detail, rather it could be captured by mind of abstract, this
mind of abstract involves a lot of positive things such as curiosity, adventure, romanticism
and dream. this positive mind set start with one simple brush stroke, and a little bit of detail.
Today, I want to talk about the mysterious colors of the night sky, how do you express
colors of the night ?  is that blue, purple, brown or black ?
there is no such colors in night sky, that's why I keep try to undersatnd myself,
and I found one conclusion
I can start with any colors I like with true bold brush...

Snow Day in Lexington Ave.

Did you notice Chrysler Building far distance ?  I wish I could get more detail of
Chrysler building, but size of this painting makes almost impossible to show the tip of
Chrysler building, but you could see that building from far away..., One day I will make
a painting just with Chrysler building because it worth it.
By the way, a girl just came out of the
shop and open the umbrella, walk through the first snow of the season, I notice
red, yellow and orange spot lights emerging from the streets makes fantastic
contrast with evening snow.
I found streets of Manhattan magical...it has all the magical element everywhere,
I feel like I become a little boy again..,.

Soho Snow Day

On snow day in Soho, a lady was walking downtown after shopping, it was cozy enough
to get my attention, this snow was the first snow for the seeason also, color was facinating,
and I immediatly started painting with large bold brush, I start very quickly in the beginning,
and takes time for some details. I establish big base line first and then I go for the color I love.
and I continuosly touches until I achieve a new poetry in my mind.

There is a lot of different moment in downtown, and there will be a lot of stories behind it.
My painting is based on romanticism and I love to play with it with my brush stroke,
but I do not expect every painting come out almost same result, maybe I can change my technique
little bit by given moment, but I do want to see a lot of consistasy with all different painting.
Consistansy is important for the painting because that shows what you thinking and what
you want to do in the future.

First Snow in Lexington Ave.

I think it was January this year, we had first and last snow for this year in NewYork.
It was refereshing and pleasant because it was first snow this year and I was expecting
more to come, this snow stops soon and sky gets brighten make me disappointing
but, this is a snow in Lexington Ave, I cannot miss this opportunity.
Of course,  I have a freedom of choice for color and method, it sounds like common sense,
but it is not easy in reality, basic concept is most important thing before start a new painting.
I have to start painting as bold as possible in the beginning to get good result.
I have such obsession for New York city, the first time when I arrived in New York city
20 some years ago, I did not realize that becuase maybe I was too busy make a
living or maybe I was too much obsessed with other things...Now, after years of professional
artist life, I 've become more and more interested in Life Style of New York city, this big
city has almost everything, such as a lot of interesting people, a lot of interesting building,
a lot of cafe, a lot of beautiful woman, and most of all, unique coziness.
Even before I talk about New York city, always mentioned that the importance of our daily
life, any given moment of our life could be great subject matter if we observe carefully.

In the future, I will continuously create interesting New York scene as much as possible.

Nature's Balance

I like rich green color in summer, so I had to simplify all others to make sure
rich green colors stand out, sky was beautiful blue and cloud was there just
as if making balanced nature over all.., I wonder how,s going to be if I make
a lot bigger painting with exact same mind set, I think painting will come out
spectacular, if I use enough brush stroke and rich colors...
I am always looking for something fresh concept or colors without eliminating
traditional method.. yes, I am one of the proson who wants to keep a canvas,
a brush and old school, but I am not an plein air artist, impressionist, or an
expressionist, I don't belong to anywhere, because I am just an Artist searching
for the Truth.

Sunshine in the Park

I am learning a lot of things from nature, our nature indicates plenty of
reasons to paint, there is rich colors and all those small elements from
nature itself give me plenty of ideas to go ahead a piece of painting,
I just have to simplifiy a lot and find good result. I talked about "Lines"
behind a piece of painting, that is exactly happening in this painting.
The " Line " is important only for myself, because that has historical
reasons to me, it's personal matter, also it could be cultral matter, too.
A lot of times, these concept coming in the middle of painting, so I cannot
help but have to go that way....

Waves of Jones Beach

Today, I want to describe the importance of our effort to complete a painting.
I usually get inspired by something small sections or part of our daily life.
I have developed several different kinf of technique during the last 10
years of struggle with my painting process, but , if i think about one technique after
another I usally never reach what mind is looking forward, on the contrary,
when I deeply understand what I want to achieve and just follow my dream and music,
sometimes, the technique comes automatically with all my experiences, all of sudden,
new world comes right in front of me, the painting gets it's own life and start
breathing by itself.
So, this is the lesson I learned from my self.
Hopefully, in the future, I continue to this wise step, and create something remarkable...

Late Winter in Cold Spring Harbor

I pass by this location very often, because this town(Cold Spring Harbor) is not far from where I live (Locust Valley) and I wandering around to find something really inspires me, this town possess it's own coziness and what really drives me to paint is a sense of happiness, and I tried hard not to
make so realistic...yes, my recent painting is about a sense of music and life, I do not think this could be done with brilliant realism, the real comes automatically when I get inspired with mind of some thing,  that thing is hard to explain....anyway, I try to free my hand I only put least detail as possible
to get closer to what I am thinking.

June Lake

One piece of painting has it's own story itself, and it is not easy to say about one particular painting,
but that's painting, I do not want to explain everytime why this painting is made..
But, here is the simple explanation for the people who wants to share little bit of story from myself.

I visited a park near our neighbor and I found these beautiful sunshine and shadow
everywhere, and I was very impressed by the color of the forest and sunshine of the morning at the same time,
so I decided to paint this spot with very quick brushstroke before I lose my initial intentions,
I love to show brushstrokes on my painting, and by the time when I actually
paint, I realize that this painting needs it's own color story, yes, color is the main
driven source for me to paint.

Sunset over Village of North Shore

I am refering to a painting I made in January.
A couple of days passed after snow in the village, the weather was warm enough
to melt snows in the ground, the sunset was very strongand that makes most of
the earth colors brownish colors...and I was fascinated by these colors from
years ago, that is why I am keep going back to study these colors from time to
time, I think there is unlimited possibilities in creating new colors and
artists need to adventure and practice more about colors. Anyway, continue
to prior story, the reason why I keep put emphasis on colors is that I think
these new colors give me happiness and if others feel same way, that will be great !

Morning Lake

This paintings is about how to effectively record this given moment with colors and brushstroke,

that eventually lead into a piece of poem and mystery.

If I choose good subject matter, I feel like I am learning a lot,

I like this particular piece because there is a lot of element

within one color source, and I like to play with colors and

lights...., Sunshine and shadows are good source of inspiration.

Moon over Twilight Cloud

I want to make a point here, I do not want to capture exactly what I see from nature,
but I would rather capture some sort of things that I desire.
people does not need to copy nature or photograph, but use them to achieve something that no other
people has done, they can do that by simply painting everyday with a little bit of inspiration.

My source of paintings are around me, a lot of things from my daily life.
All those things give me inspiration by different timings and reason.
I love exploring our life with my colors and brushstroke,
this lead me into somewhere better place.

Stormy day July 2010

I was walking through beaches nearby and here comes a storm, a dark cloud
approaching this way..within 5 minutes the color of this beach was changing
from yellow to dark blue and rain pouring from sky to the land and sea,
it was powerful color change and I felt the power of nature, at the same time
I got an inspiration from this changing colors and the huge energy coming from
the sky, I made several sketches and this painting is call " Stormy Day 2010"
