Manhattan has a lot of colors, but evening time has certainly mysrerious colors.
At this time of the evening, there is only on romantic color but I go around mix with several
colors to make as one evening color. Emotionally, I have so much love for this big city,
I have to admit that I worked here in Manhattan for such a long time, but actually
I did not realize this much of beauty this town has...of course, there is a lot of
negative side also but I would insist that this big city has a lot of lovely
stories behind and I want to record a lot of details this way.

This painting is 12x12 inches oil on Canvas and this could be smaller version of
what's coming in the future with much biggerscale.

Another Day in Manhattan, I witnessed something important, I always thinking
about it but  never connected with paintings.
I am always looking at our life with two different point of view...
I grew up with a lot of expectations and hopes, also I am naturally positive
and happy person and was looking for extremely romantic side of our life..
Maybe still I am, but....here comes desperation....a lot of disappointment.....
Sometimes it's overwhelming that I don't know what to do about it....

When I finished this painting however, I was quite amused that I was able to
show the two side of our human life as it is...

Now I have a courage to paint more of our life...
I want to paint the story of our life not by physically but by emotionally..

One day, a lady walking a dog in the city of New York looked quite unusual.
But this is one part of Manhattan story and very lovely afternoon heading into
evening. As a fine artist, I am always looking for something important from
our life style, I am not looking for something extroadinary but rather ordinary
and romantic. All I have to do is reproduce the moment with colors and
brushstroke that emphasis the moment.

Leaving Olive Cafe

I always think any given moment has only one color, that decisive color tells the
moment of truth, also light and dark is my prefered choice for my paintings
philasophy, that's technical issues...this remind me of my art professor(long time
ago) saying "painting is either light or dark, there is nothing like light and dark.." ???

My painting is based on optimism and hope, but I cannot help but showing
dark and sad part of our life story, or leave it as mystery.
I paint a lot of layers and layers, and add textures eventually to make my idea alive..
I have a certain ideas but techniques vary on subject matter.

Ladies represent the mysterious part of our life.

Howard Street Afternoon

As a person living nearby Manhattan, I appreciate colors of Manhattan, not just colors,
I appreciate whatever happening here, there is yellow taxi going downtown, tour bus
heading museums, there is people biking( always think looks a little dangerous),
a beautiful lady waiting for green light, people walking and talking....,
there is a lot of element it could be poetry of our life, and for me, light and shadow
is very important to make my painting alive, here comes an order for me to paint,
first, I have initial feelings it's very positive and happy inspiration, and next is suject matter
it follows my initial thought, then I go for one color theory that suits my idea, and finally,
I become adventurer in the jungle,
my final thought..I don't always satisfy with my paintings, but I am happy to see I am
heading to right directions that I want to go.

Other People's Painting

One day,  I was walking down streets of Soho with my family, there was a beautiful
brown tone painting hanging on the wall of art gallery, my daughter saying " Wow,
I really like that" and my wife also said " it's a beautiful"

Suddenly, my mind was caugh up with complicated issues, did I ever tired something
like that ? How other people's painting look so good under spot light ?
Maybe I didn't have a luxury to have such a nice painting model....

All these complicated mind is just an excuse from a lazy artist, an artist should be able to
find his or her painting subject easily from their surroundings, otherwise they have to
try hard(really hard) to find right one, no great art work comes easy..
A great painting comes from great deal of passion and determination.
Heading to downtown Soho, a young lady was crossing 6 Ave., I think she is heading to
New York University where she is exploring study with new printing technology
related to art project she is going to present soon.
The sky is clearing after sudden snow showers early morning, .and the streets of 6 Ave.
is somewhat getting more pleasant, but here is the catch.. look at the shadow on left
side.., it's almost like frozen from the snow, it actually represent dark side of the
Manhattan, contrasting people coming out of their apartment for shopping.

Behind that trees with snow is New York university where our smart boys and girls
study for our future, hopefully, we have a lot better future ahead of us........

Color of the night is ambiguous and mystery, and I don't think it can be captured
by physical detail, rather it could be captured by mind of abstract, this
mind of abstract involves a lot of positive things such as curiosity, adventure, romanticism
and dream. this positive mind set start with one simple brush stroke, and a little bit of detail.
Today, I want to talk about the mysterious colors of the night sky, how do you express
colors of the night ?  is that blue, purple, brown or black ?
there is no such colors in night sky, that's why I keep try to undersatnd myself,
and I found one conclusion
I can start with any colors I like with true bold brush...

Snow Day in Lexington Ave.

Did you notice Chrysler Building far distance ?  I wish I could get more detail of
Chrysler building, but size of this painting makes almost impossible to show the tip of
Chrysler building, but you could see that building from far away..., One day I will make
a painting just with Chrysler building because it worth it.
By the way, a girl just came out of the
shop and open the umbrella, walk through the first snow of the season, I notice
red, yellow and orange spot lights emerging from the streets makes fantastic
contrast with evening snow.
I found streets of Manhattan magical...it has all the magical element everywhere,
I feel like I become a little boy again..,.

Soho Snow Day

On snow day in Soho, a lady was walking downtown after shopping, it was cozy enough
to get my attention, this snow was the first snow for the seeason also, color was facinating,
and I immediatly started painting with large bold brush, I start very quickly in the beginning,
and takes time for some details. I establish big base line first and then I go for the color I love.
and I continuosly touches until I achieve a new poetry in my mind.

There is a lot of different moment in downtown, and there will be a lot of stories behind it.
My painting is based on romanticism and I love to play with it with my brush stroke,
but I do not expect every painting come out almost same result, maybe I can change my technique
little bit by given moment, but I do want to see a lot of consistasy with all different painting.
Consistansy is important for the painting because that shows what you thinking and what
you want to do in the future.

First Snow in Lexington Ave.

I think it was January this year, we had first and last snow for this year in NewYork.
It was refereshing and pleasant because it was first snow this year and I was expecting
more to come, this snow stops soon and sky gets brighten make me disappointing
but, this is a snow in Lexington Ave, I cannot miss this opportunity.
Of course,  I have a freedom of choice for color and method, it sounds like common sense,
but it is not easy in reality, basic concept is most important thing before start a new painting.
I have to start painting as bold as possible in the beginning to get good result.
I have such obsession for New York city, the first time when I arrived in New York city
20 some years ago, I did not realize that becuase maybe I was too busy make a
living or maybe I was too much obsessed with other things...Now, after years of professional
artist life, I 've become more and more interested in Life Style of New York city, this big
city has almost everything, such as a lot of interesting people, a lot of interesting building,
a lot of cafe, a lot of beautiful woman, and most of all, unique coziness.
Even before I talk about New York city, always mentioned that the importance of our daily
life, any given moment of our life could be great subject matter if we observe carefully.

In the future, I will continuously create interesting New York scene as much as possible.
